Once Forbidden, Now my Kingdom
There are kitchens you're invited into —
and kitchens you're drawn to whether you're welcome or not.
As a child, I stood at the threshold of my mother's and grandmother's kitchen, watching them move with quiet mastery filling a room with warmth before a single guest arrived. I wasn't allowed in. But I was always watching. That was my first lesson in hospitality.
I'm Makeda , Maki and I grew up between worlds. Ethiopian tradition at home. French language and culture at school. I've been a server, a bartender, a barista, a CPA auditor, a general manager, and today I oversee operations at an artisan dessert company all while earning my MBA and building something of my own.
Every dish I put on a tray carries that layered story the slow-simmered sauces, the bold spice blends, the attention to detail that only comes from someone who has stood on every side of the table.
Maki's Gourmet was born from all of it. Curated menus that blend cultural heritage with modern sophistication. Gourmet catering and elevated meal prep that treats every guest whether it's 10 people or 100 as though they deserve something extraordinary.
Because they do. And so do you.
